Over the last two weeks, Year 3 have been learning how to divide 2 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers in maths. The children used their fabulous pre existing knowledge from Year 2 to aid them into sharing their resources into equal groups.
At the start of the unit, children used physical resources such as dienes and counters and worked in groups to solve the problems they faced. Using these, helped the children develop an understanding of how these numbers should be displayed and the necessary steps required when they faced a problem.
Using their skills developed working in small groups, the children then displayed their working out into their books. As the children grew in confidence they had the choice of which method they would prefer to use and even discussed in pairs which method would be the most effective for each individual question. Here are some lovely examples of our recent work!
