Plants and Flowers

This half term Year 1 are going to be learning about plants during their science lessons. To launch this topic the children went on a treasure hunt outside, to see what plants they could find growing around the school grounds.

The children were provided with a checklist to help them keep track of the various plants they discovered and to practice identifying them by name. It was wonderful to hear their discussions about the appearance, scent, and different parts of each plant

The children were very surprised at just how many different plants there were around the school. Some they had never even noticed before, and some they took photos of to ask Mr Keeley to help them identify later.

Year 1 will be continuing to learn about plants over the coming half term, and it would be wonderful if you could keep the conversation going at home when you’re out and about! Next time you’re on a walk, try pointing out different plants and trees together with your child. How many different plants can you name?
