Recently in maths, Year 3 have been busy learning how to add 3-digit numbers. Using concrete resources, they have identified the importance of representing numbers clearly into hundreds, tens and ones before adding each column. When confident with strategies learnt, the children began using pictorial representations, drawing what they had made with the resources.
When introducing addition questions that involved regrouping/exchange, we encouraged the children to use their reasoning and problem solving skills to develop a success criteria, using their prior knowledge to manipulate the numbers.
