At the beginning of last half term, there was a strange delivery in Year 2. Each class was sent a box with ‘FRAGILE’ written all over it. When we carefully opened the box, we discovered an amazing egg and an important set of instructions titled, ‘How to look after a pet dragon’.
The children learnt the talking story, using actions to help them remember the different parts. They focussed on the features of instruction writing so they could then write their own.
Before the end of the half term, the children used the structure of the instructions they were sent and had a go at writing their own set of instructions about how to look after an animal of their choice. They thought carefully about what features to include and the order that their steps needed to go in.
