What a super start Year 2 have made this year! The children have been using different Art and D&T skills to create word inspired by the continent of Asia.
Firstly, the children explored Asian animals. They had a go at sketching, weaving and sculpting Indian elephants. Did you know they are easy to spot as they have smaller ears than African elephants?
The children have experimented with a range of artistic techniques, including plaiting, mixing paints to create tones and tints, blending colours to make an Asian sunset and painting using different brush thicknesses.
The children also explored the country of Japan. They used different materials to create a collage of Mount Fuji (Fuji San) and each class used different painting techniques to create Japanese cherry blossom (known locally as Sakura).
One of our favourite projects was making our very own wind up toy using cardboard, string and a dowel. The children were used the Japanese art of origami to create boats using special origami paper and they were inspired by the artwork ‘The Great Wave off Kanagawa’, by the Japanese artist Hokusai, to create the background of their toy using different medias.
The finished work can be seen on the display boards around the school. Great work year 2!
