Year 3 Pop-up books

In Design & Technology this term, Year 3 have been designing and constructing pop up books. Our project started by examining already published pop up books and identifying what was effective about them. The children identified the pop-up books they were reading all had a pop up, lever and flap. These made the books fascinating and engaging for the readers. We then started to construct our books over a series of lessons each with a different objective. The children applied appropriate cutting and shaping techniques to ensure their finished product would engage the reader. Working on a page at a time the designs started to come together. Children added in writing they had recently completed in their ‘Magnificent Mountain’ non-chronological reports and then carefully crafted their books together. Once finished the children had the opportunity to partner up with a year 2 child and show off their books, including their lever and flap alongside their new found knowledge of mountains.
