This week, year 4 and 5 were lucky enough to have Surya Arts come in to do a performance around the issue of Fairtrade and the Rights of Children. During the play, the students were able to interact using musical instruments as they learnt about where India was and the culture surrounding the country.
They were then introduced to Surya’s story of why an eleven year old girl left her village to join the children’s march in Geneva after poor working conditions while sewing footballs to be sold in the UK.
We were even lucky enough to ask some of the main characters questions about their experiences.
After, we were all treated to a dance workshop which we thoroughly enjoyed.
We hope to continue discussions about Fairtrade in the classrooms and have challenged the students to find the Fairtrade label when out and about!
