Before half term, Winton had the honour of hosting the Bournemouth Primary School’s Handball championships. This event involved 12 teams from different schools around Bournemouth all competing to earn one of 4 places at The Dorset County School Games at Bryanston School in June. As hosts Winton were allowed 2 teams in the competition. Each team was a mixed team of 5 with a 3:2 gender split. The weather was kind to us after a wet morning with the sun unexpectedly beaming down on us and our big goals led to exciting matches with lots of goals being scored. Our 2 teams ‘The Winton Panthers’ and ‘The Winton Pumas,’ all played amazingly well, The Winton Panthers, in particular, winning all 4 of their group games to finish top of their league of 5 schools and therefore qualifying for The Dorset Games. At the end of the day there was a play off between the two schools who topped both leagues and Winton ended up playing St. Katherines who beat us 5-2 to win the overall trophy. Congratulations to both of our teams who played all their games with great sportsmanship, determination and teamwork. Winton we are proud of you. Watch a video of some of the days highlights below.
