Year 3 have been enjoying learning about our new Roman Topic ‘What left the Romans in Ruins?’ this topic is focused on the eruption of Mount Vesuvius and the city of Pompeii.
This week, the children have been learning about what life was like in the Roman army as well as learning a story about the eruption of Mount Vesuvius from the view of a child who was able to escape the city just in time.
The children read the story and thought about the thoughts and feelings of the characters throughout the story.
In groups, the children chose parts of the story that they represented as a freeze frame drama activity. The children needed to think carefully about their use of space, levels, body language and facial expressions to portray what was going on in the story. The children enjoyed rehearsing and planning how they would show different parts of the story.
Different groups performed their freeze frame to the class who had to guess what part of the story was being shown.
