Flying High!

To support Year 4’s Topic about flight, we were very lucky to have a visit from aviation expert Colin van Geffen from the Bournemouth Red Arrows Association. Colin shared his encyclopaedic knowledge of local flying history, including how Poole Harbour was a base for flying boats, and some fascinating photos and videos of the Red Arrows. The children really enjoyed hearing some of the ‘tricks of the trade’ and asked some really thoughtful questions such as “Do the Red Arrows have different coloured smoke when they visit other countries?” and “Do the Red Arrows displays have a big environmental impact?” Finally Colin encouraged the children to make their own planes for our own Year 4 display in the playground. Our thanks to Colin for giving us such an interesting and inspiring talk! I wonder how many future pilots were sat in the audience?
