Becoming detectives

This term, Year 5 will become Historians and will be looking at how crimes and their punishments have changed over time. To help us find out about the different time periods, we will use different sources from the time as well as more modern sources to think about how reliable they are and what we can infer from them.

To launch our topic, we looked at what key skills investigators need including the need for careful observations and how the police take and use fingerprints to help them solve crimes. We looked closely at how our fingerprints were unique and the different patterns that they contained including arches, whorls, loops and the very rare double whorl.
