Year 4 Anglo Saxons

This week, Year 4 have started looking at the Anglo Saxons and their rule in the United Kingdom. We learnt that originally there were 3 separate tribes called the Angles, Saxons and Jutes. All were Germanic tribes that travelled over and invaded our east coast from northern Europe. We began plotting a timeline of their rule learning that they came to England because the Roman Army, who has been in control of most of Britain, had left in 410CE. The tribes that later became known as the Anglo-Saxons travelled to Britain around 430CE and remained settled her until 1066 when William the Conqueror came here and defeated them, in what we now know as the Battle of Hastings. We are looking forward to learning more about their way of life and seeing what traditions or cultures may remain today.
