Instructions!

In Year One this half term we have been learning about instructions. We have talked about what instructions are for and how they help us do things. We made a list of things that we might need instructions for: we thought of Lego models, building furniture and we follow instructions to bake a cake, this is called a recipe.

We made a tool kit for all things that a good set of instructions need, we said a title, a list of the items you will need. They have numbers and bullet points. We also have learnt about using bossy verbs like ‘get, pull, slice’ to tell us the action we need to do, and adverbs tell us how we should do things like ‘quickly, slowly, or carefully.’

On Tuesday we followed our class instructions of how to make a jam sandwich, but first we followed a bad set. They told us

Get bread, put jam on top, cut and enjoy. – You can imagine the mess we all got into.

So then we followed our class instructions, and made a super sandwich, these are the instructions we followed.

They were much easier to follow, and we made a super sandwich. Over the next few weeks we will be changing our instructions and making our own sandwiches too.
