Phonics workshop!

The children in Reception have all been hard at work learning lots of new phonic sounds, and this week, we showed off just how brilliant we are, by inviting in our adults to show them what we do in Phonic sessions. We showed them how well we know our sounds and tricky words, we sang the alphabet song to know our letter names when we see capital letters. We even taught the adults that 2 letters making one code sound is called a digraph – ‘ai’ as in the word rain, and that 3 letters making one code is called a trigraph – ‘igh’ as in the word night. They were all very impressed!!

After we showed them our lesson, we then had some time to read. We all took a book and found a comfy place to sit and share the text with our grown ups. It was so nice to hear some brilliant chat about what we could see in the pictures and what the setting and characters were in each book. Well done Reception, keep up the brilliant reading at home!
