As we come back from the half-term break, our Year 5 students are jumping straight into an exciting new unit that will ignite their imaginations and strengthen their writing skills. This term, we’re exploring a fresh, fun twist on a classic story: Red – A Twisted Fairy Tale of Red Riding Hood. The Talk 4 Writing approach will guide us through this adventurous text, providing a fantastic opportunity for students to learn new vocabulary, enhance their storytelling abilities, and write their own creative versions of the tale.
One of the most exciting aspects of this unit is the opportunity for students to create their own versions of the story. Changing aspects of this classic tale to make it filled with forewarning, suspense and show not tell.
Along the way, your child will also be expanding their vocabulary, learning new words and phrases to bring their stories to life.
It’s a wonderful time for Year 5 students to get stuck into learning, and we’re excited to see how they’ll take this traditional story and turn it into something completely unique and fun. If you’d like to support your child at home, encourage them to talk about their ideas, explore new words, and share their thoughts on what makes a good story.
