Year 1 have been exploring teens numbers.
They have used a variety of concrete manipulatives to represent teens numbers, partitioning them into tens and ones.
They used bead strings to make numbers and were able to explain that they didn’t need to count out ten as ten was one whole block of colour.
Then they looked at different pictorial representations of numbers and matched them to the numeral.
The children used tens frames and counters to make the numbers. They also talked to their partner and used the stem sentence “There are ___ tens and ___ ones,” filling in the gaps.
Finally they used Numicon to represent the teens numbers.
