Habitat Walk!

In Reception this half term we have just started learning about animals and their habitats. We have talked about how a habitat is anywhere that an animal lives, and can keep them safe and fed.

We have looked at lots of habitats from all around the world, from deserts to rainforests. Then we looked at habitats we might find in our local area. We talked about the animals we might find at the beach because we live by the coast, and the animals that live in the New Forest too. The children were brilliant at thinking about wild animals and how they look after themselves. As well as how some animals are domestic animals and we keep them as pets and look after them in our homes.

Yesterday we went for a walk around school to see which habitats we could see. We noticed a few nests for the birds, some breaks in the hedge which we know foxes have made their homes, and we even looked under some logs and in the tyres and saw lots of mini beasts. Next time you go in your garden, or go for a walk, why not have a look at which habitats you can see.
