Last half term, year 6 completed a history unit all about the train line coming to Bournemouth in Victorian times!
We learnt about the positives and negatives of the development and learnt key facts about our area prior to the train line being extended from Southampton in the mid-1800’s. For example, the population of our town was only 1300 people which grew exponentially with tourism and new settlers.
Children also had a visit from South West Trains which educated us about the history of the station in Bournemouth and also safety around the railway line.
The lovely people at SWT also agreed to display and distribute a book of train poetry that the children have been working on, look out for it at Bournemouth central, the poems are amazing!
