In maths, Year 1 have been learning all about addition.
They have been using different methods to help them with their learning including the use of part-part-whole models. Having been given a part-part-whole model that has been partially filled, the children used their number knowledge and worked together to find the missing number.
By using tens frames and counters, the children could visually see which number was missing from their part-part-whole model.
The children took it in turns to put the whole number on the tens frame, once they had found the first part, they turned that amount of counters over to represent the parts of the whole number. They then were able to fill out the part-part-whole model to show the different parts of the whole number.
By working in partners the children could take turns exploring the different parts of whole numbers which they could then turn into simple number sentences using addition for example 5 + 2 = 7.
Well done Year 1 we are very proud!
