Outdoor learning in Reception

The children in Reception learn both inside and outside the classroom. They develop their gross motor skills which will help their co-ordination and are essential in the development of fine motor skills.

Here the children had to lie on the floor and roll over to move the beanbag from one hoop to the other. This was making them cross their mid-line, again helping with co-ordination.

They have been using the brackets and guttering to make a large scale marble run; developing problem solving skills when the balls get stuck or fall off the guttering.

The children have also enjoyed making their own obstacle courses, using the planks to enhance the existing blocks.

To develop throwing and catching skills the children have been throwing beanbags onto the number mat, aiming for different numbers and throwing into the basketball hoops.

Let’s hope the rain keeps away, so we can keep enjoying our outdoor learning in the dry!
