This week, the children in Year 4 were surprised to receive a letter from Mr Hart suggesting that screen time should be limited to 30 minutes per day. This includes 20 minutes on TT Rockstars and 10 minutes of free time. This sparked an interesting discussion and led to a class debate, where children explained and justified their reasons for and against the idea.
Following the debate and some online research, the children wrote balanced arguments inspired by Mr Hart’s letter. They created a toolkit for a balanced argument, incorporating features such as writing in the third person, using connectives, crafting introductions and conclusions, and even incorporating an Alan Peat ‘If, if, if, then’ sentence. Here are some examples of the children’s wonderful work:
After extensive debate, there are still mixed opinions on whether screen time should be limited to 30 minutes a day. What are your thoughts on this?
