The children in Year 2 have been learning that addition and subtraction knowledge is useful for many activities in everyday life, like playing games! Also, it is essential for simple problems, such as, checking bills and receipts.
They are becoming more confident at recognising number bonds to 10 and 20 and have used this knowledge to add and subtract two and one digit numbers and two, two-digit numbers (across 10).
For these activities the children have used concrete resources (Dienes) to improve their maths knowledge. Concrete resources, such as Dienes, multi-link and rekenrek, can help children to understand the relationship between numbers and the number system.
Year 2 enjoyed trying to solve lots of challenging equations and have worked independently and with partners to discuss and talk through their learning.
Well done Year 2!
