In Year 5 this half term, we have been using the book ‘There’s a boy in the girls’ bathroom’ by Louis Sachar in our reading lessons.
The book explores friendship, acceptance and that you can always change for the better. Over the half term, we have explored how an author creates personalities, how our feelings can change about someone in a book and the different literacy devices that we can use. We have used a range of different techniques to help us understand and develop skills including answering questions as the author, putting ourselves in the shoes of the characters and mapping out changes in feelings using comic strips.
Over the half term, we have also focused on our expression as we read and how this allows others to understand the thoughts and feelings of the character and what the author is trying to portray to the reader. To help us do this, we have used our drama skills to act out key parts showing the thoughts and feelings of the characters.

We’ve really loved the book and it has shown us how anyone can change for the better.
