Year five have been learning all about conflict through time this half term and as part of the topic we have been looking into the different types of weapons that have been used throughout the ages.
One such tool of destruction is the trebuchet which is a huge contraption used to break down the walls of a castle when under siege. The year fives were put into teams and, after watching some short videos of trebuchets in action, they were tasked with designing and building one of their own!
The teams were given minimal resources such as: large lollipop sticks, glue and strong tape. There was much deliberation and adjustments made along the way but (most) of the teams managed to produce a working trebuchet!
