Reception have been learning about our local area in our topic ‘Who will I meet in Winton?’ The children have been exploring the local area on a map and talking about places they have visited and places they recognise. It has been lovely hearing them discuss the roads they walk down to and from school and hearing them excitedly spot shops and cafes they visit too. They have been busy creating their own maps in Outdoor Learning and adding places they like to go to like Redhill Park or Sprinkles.
As part of this topic, we found the Police Station on the map and asked the Police to come and visit us. They talked to us about the jobs they do, what uniform they wear and showed us their police car. Reception asked them questions like ‘What is your camera for?’ and ‘When do you use the flashing lights?’ It was a fantastic afternoon!
