This week Winton’s girls team made a start to their season with a tournament at Littledown. A squad of 10 girls competed in the annual School Games event and the team worked really well together from the start. Winton were put in a qualifying league with St Katherines, Pokesdown and Elm. They started well with a draw against Pokesdown, then they beat St. Katherines 1-0 and finally drew with Elm. This meant we had got through the group stages undefeated and without conceding a goal! In the later stages of the tournament teams were re-pooled to play teams of similar ability. This was again a test the girls relished and they worked hard to get a win, draw and finally a loss in their next 3 games. Mia finally let a goal in! Imogen received a medal (as did one player from every team) for displaying the value of the day which was teamwork, a reflection of her kind nature and great work rate and progress on the pitch. All the girls were a credit to the school and they now look forward to the league games coming up over the next few months.
