Cultural Capital & British Values
We are committed to providing pupils with the cultural capital they need to become informed, thoughtful members of society. This includes a deep understanding of British values, which underpin our curriculum and school life.
British Values
Democracy
Pupils have many opportunities to express their views and influence school life. Children have many opportunities to have their voices heard and valued across a wide range of leadership roles, such as school council.
The Rule of Law
Children learn the importance of laws and the reasons behind them. Each class creates a charter at the start of the year, helping pupils understand their rights and responsibilities. They recognise that actions have consequences, both in school and in wider society.
Individual Liberty
We believe that choice is a powerful motivator. Pupils are given the freedom to make decisions about their learning—whether through selecting challenges, resources, learning partners or areas of interest—within a safe and supportive environment.
Mutual Respect
Respect is a core value at Winton. It is woven into every aspect of school life—from classroom interactions to playground behaviour, from sports to community engagement. Pupils learn that respect is due to everyone, regardless of background, culture or belief.
Tolerance of those of Different Faiths and Beliefs
Through our RE and PSHE curriculum, assemblies and celebrations of cultural diversity, pupils gain a deep appreciation for different faiths, traditions and worldviews. This helps them understand their place in a diverse society and foster a spirit of inclusion and empathy.
