Curriculum Drivers

Our curriculum is driven by three ‘drivers’:
Aspiration, Community and Enquiry…

Our Curriculum Drivers at Winton Primary School

At Winton Primary School, the breadth of our curriculum is shaped by four key elements: our curriculum drivers, cultural capital, subject topics and our ambition for pupils to engage with the best that has been thought and said by generations of scholars and thinkers.

Curriculum Drivers

Our curriculum drivers are rooted in our core values and our belief in what constitutes a high-quality education. They are central to what makes Winton’s curriculum distinctive and are designed to meet the specific needs of our pupils. These drivers ensure that learning is relevant, forward-looking and rich with opportunities for children to discover and develop their individual potential.

Aspiration

We encourage all pupils to aim high, set goals and believe in their abilities. Through nurturing self-confidence and a willingness to take on the role of experts, children are empowered to see themselves as capable and ambitious learners. As part of our early career education, we introduce pupils to a wide range of role models, helping them broaden their horizons and understand the many possibilities their futures may hold.

  • School trips
  • Visitors/ experts in the field(s)
  • Early career education
  • Professional sports people

Community

We help children develop a strong sense of identity and belonging—both locally and globally. Our curriculum draws on local geography, history and people to make learning meaningful. We believe in mutual benefit: the curriculum is enriched by community links and the community, in turn, benefits from the school’s active involvement.

  • Supporting the community
  • Curriculum links
  • Fundraising a local charity
  • Collaboration with events and landings (shared outcomes)
  • Understanding different faiths and values
  • Sporting competitions

Enquiry

Our curriculum is framed around questions rather than simply delivering answers. Pupils are encouraged to be curious, to ask thoughtful questions and to engage in higher-order thinking. This investigational approach fosters deeper understanding and a genuine love of learning.

  • Fostering inquisitive minds
  • Child-led questioning
  • Question led learning/topics
  • Using curiosity to investigate independently
