Structures in DT

Year 1 have been learning about structures.

They have found out that there are 4 main types of structure- shell, solid, frame and combined. The main purpose of a structure is to protect, contain or hold something (like a lunch box), support (like a ladder) and span (like a bridge).

This week they have learnt how to make a structure more stable and secure the centre of gravity.

They used a toilet roll and snipped the base to create flanges which were easy to anchor to a piece of card. They decorated their toilet roll before securing it to the card. Rockets, fairy houses, towers and castles were made!
