Potato Cakes – 1NA

This week we have been busy making potato cakes. In D&T this term we have been learning about food preparation. After learning skills like grating, chopping and peeling, we were ready to make our potato cakes using the skills we now know!

We started by peeling the potatoes, being very careful of our hands. We all peeled a potato each and cut them into quarters ready for them to be boiled.

After this we then grated some cheese. This binds the potato together when it is mashed and makes them nice and cheesy. We used the graters and made sure we kept our fingers clear of the gates.

After Mrs Arnold boiled the potatoes for us, we then added some egg and flour and the cheese, and mashed them together using the masher. We really liked this bit, and used the spoon to make sure it was all mixed together well.

After this, we then went into the courtyard to our outdoor cooking area. Here Mrs Arnold fried them in a pan, and we had a lovely time eating them in the sunshine. I wonder if anyone will give them a go and make them at home?
