Exploring Fractions, Decimals and Percentages

In year 5 maths, we have been learning about fractions, decimals and percentages. We wanted to apply our learning in an engaging and creative way. Instead of worksheets, we used 100 squares to design and write our names.

Each child was given a blank 100 sheet and asked to colour in sections to create their name. This allowed everyone to be creative while also thinking carefully about how much of the grid they were using. The children were able to count the number of squares for each part of their letters and then convert these into fractions, decimals and percentages.

It was wonderful to see the variety of designs across the class. The classrooms were full of colour and enthusiasm as everyone proudly shared their work.

This activity helped bring maths to life and showed how learning can be both creative and enjoyable. Well done year 5, keep up the good maths work!
