Exploring the Internet!

This half term in History we have been learning about Sir Tim Berners-Lee who is an inventor. He invented the WWW, the World Wide Web, as a collection of information pages. He did this to make communication across the world easier.

He revolutionised how we use the internet and it is now something that we use every day of our lives. On Monday we had Mr Arnold come in to visit us at school. He works for a communication company and uses the internet every day to do his job. He told us about how phones work, and how special phones called satellite phones use the internet and signal to help people communicate in remote places around the world. He brought in some phones for us to have a look at, and told us about some explorers who have used the phones to help them communicate.

Back in class we have been learning more about how Sir Tim Berners-Lee’s legacy. He has helped us to communicate quickly and easily with people around the world, listen to music and be able to share sports and events. We also use the internet to send emails and find out information. So we let the children use the internet to find out more information. We had to use our iPads to scan a QR code which took us to an internet page. We looked at the top task bar and saw the WWW that he invented.
