Y1 Victorian Adventure

Recently, the children in year 1 have been learning about the Victorian Era and Queen Victoria’s role in society. So, the teachers thought it would be a good idea to take a trip back in time to the Victorian Era by visiting the East Dorset Museum in Wimborne.

It is safe to say the children had a wonderful day! First being taken back in time to a Victorian classroom. Writing on chalk boards, meeting a very strict teacher and looking at classroom objects from the past. They couldn’t believe the quills teachers wrote with!

Then, the children entered the Victorian washroom. They noted how it was a lot more time consuming than washing now, and were surprised to find out they had to grate the soap! They also enjoyed making Victorian Christmas cards. The cards often used lace and small pictures that people used to find around their homes. Finally the children enjoyed watching and then re-enacting a ‘Punch and Judy’ style show. A popular activity from the past.

Thank you to the staff and volunteers at the museum, it is safe to say the children had a memorable day out.
