Spaghetti Shapes

This term, Year 3 have been diving into the world of 3D shapes as part of their maths learning. The children have been busy identifying and naming a variety of 3D shapes such as cubes, spheres, pyramids, cones and more. They’ve explored the key properties of these shapes, including the number of faces, edges and vertices, and have used mathematical vocabulary with growing confidence.

To bring their learning to life, this week the class took on a hands-on challenge, building their own 3D shapes using spaghetti and blue tac! Working in pairs and small groups, the children carefully constructed models of different shapes, thinking about how to connect edges and strengthen their structures. It was a fantastic way to combine creativity with problem-solving, and the classroom was full of excitement (and a few wobbly towers!).

This practical activity really helped reinforce their understanding of 3D shapes in an enjoyable way. Well done, Year 3!
