Religious Education

At Winton Primary, we follow Jigsaw RE as our Religious Education programme to help children learn about different religions, worldviews and ways of living. It follows the BCP Agreed Syllabus, which means it meets all local requirements for what children should learn in RE.

What is Jigsaw RE?

Jigsaw RE gives children the chance to:

  • Explore major world religions (such as Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Sikhism and Buddhism)

  • Learn about non-religious worldviews (such as Humanism)

  • Think about big questions in life, values and beliefs

  • Develop respect, curiosity and understanding for people who think or believe differently

It is taught in an age-appropriate and engaging way, using stories, discussion, creative activities and reflective thinking.

Parents have the right to withdraw their children from religious education and/or collective worship. From age 16, pupils can choose for themselves to opt out of collective worship if they wish. However, they cannot opt out of receiving religious education without parental consent until they are 18.
