This week in Year 5, we have been getting stuck into subtraction! Or you could call it taking away, deducting, decreasing or finding the difference. Our focus this week has been on exchanging when subtracting from numbers ending in 00 and 000. This can be a tricky concept, as children need to understand what happens when there aren’t enough ones, tens or hundreds to subtract from. It can feel a little like maths Tetris as everything has to move into the right place!
There has been lots of fantastic mathematical thinking this week and we are really pleased with the children’s perseverance.
Hopefully they’ve taken away lots from our lessons!
