This week in our history lesson, the children have been learning all about Queen Elizabeth II. We explored her remarkable life, her long reign, and the important role she played in the UK and around the world.
The children were fascinated to discover that Queen Elizabeth II became Queen in 1952 and served for over 70 years, making her the longest-reigning monarch in British history! We discussed key moments from her life, including her coronation, her family, and some of the changes she witnessed throughout her reign.
As part of our learning, we also talked about how the public can find out more about the Royal Family today. The children enjoyed discovering that people can:
-
Visit official royal websites to read updates and learn about royal duties
-
Explore museums, castles, and exhibitions linked to the monarchy
-
Watch documentaries or news reports about royal events
-
Read books that tell the story of Queen Elizabeth II’s life and the history of the monarchy
The classes particularly enjoyed watching the first ever Christmas Day speech broadcasted on TV!
The children showed great curiosity and asked thoughtful questions about her reign. It was wonderful to see them so engaged and enthusiastic about learning!
