Reception firefighter visit

In Reception we are learning about people we might meet in Winton and the jobs they do. We had great fun this week when our local firefighters came to visit with one of their fire engines. The children learnt that firefighters do lots of different jobs, like testing fire alarms and giving talks about fire safety, as well as rescuing cats from trees and putting out fires. We found out that all fire engines have their own name so the firefighters know which fire engine to get back onto if more than one fire engine has to go to help people. The one that came today is called 22P1.

We also learnt about some of the equipment on the fire engines and how they are used. They carry lots of hoses and ladders, including a very long and heavy ladder. They also carry oxygen canisters to help the firefighters breathe when they are in buildings full of smoke. The children loved lifting up the very heavy scissors that are used to cut open cars and spraying the hose to knock a ball of a cone.

Thank you firefighters for visiting and helping us learn more about your role in our community.
