Tints and Tones

In Arts week in Year One, we have been learning about colour. We talked about the primary and secondary colours we learnt about in Year R, and then how we can make them darker or lighter.

When we add black we tone a colour down, this means the colours get darker. When we tint a colour, we add white and make the original colour lighter.

We also have been busy recapping the seasons and how they change through the year. Each class took a season, and the colours they represent, to make a seasons display in our base. 1IN used oranges and browns to tint and tone and make a leaf for autumn. 1RD used blues to make a snowflake for winter, 1NB did some brilliant pinks and purple tints and tones to make a flower for spring. In 1NA we used reds, yellows and oranges to make a sunshine for summer.
