Year 1 have started their learning on multiplication and division by counting in groups of 2, 5 and 10.
They chanted in steps of 2, 5 and 10 and noticed patterns in the numbers. For example when counting in steps of 5 from zero there are either 5 ones or 0 ones. When counting in steps of 10 from zero there are always 0 ones. The children used various concrete resources to help them count in 2s, 5s or 10s recording the number on a whiteboard. 
Next week they are moving onto writing repeated addition calculations. For example 10+10+10=30 and then making arrays.
