Year 2 launched their topic ‘Are all habitats the same?’ by going on a habitat hunt in the school grounds.
They worked with a partner to find a picture of a habitat and match it to the animals and plants on their sheets.
There were lots of discussions about what might live where and why certain animals could not live in a specific habitat. One child explained that the shark cannot live in the desert because there is not enough water and it wouldn’t be able to move or breathe as it doesn’t have legs and has gills.
As a landing to this topic the Year 2 children will repeat the habitat hunt with children from Year 1. The Year 2 children will be the experts and will share all the knowledge they have learnt with the Year 1 children.
