In Year 1 this half-term, we have started a brand-new topic in science about plants and trees. We started our topic off with an exciting plant hunt around the school. The children enjoyed putting their investigation hats on to explore the school grounds and search for common plants, including garden plants, wild plants and trees. They took photos of each plant and tree that they saw and worked as a team to tick off as many as they could.
They came across many different plants including herbs and found it interesting to smell the different types of scents. The children were surprised to see so many different types of plants around school and loved finding them and being super scientists by identifying them. Then we went on another walk around school to see if we could identify different deciduous and evergreen trees and shrubs. The children were fantastic at being able to tell the difference and were able to use their knowledge to explain how they knew which ones were deciduous and which were evergreen.
