To round off our Year 4 work on waste and recycling, we asked the children to design posters that encourage people not to drop litter in our parks. This was inspired by our very successful litter picking trip to Redhill Park.
At Winton we always like to try and link work to the ‘real world’ and that is why we asked Sophie Grayburn, from BCP council, to come in to school and choose four of the posters to be reproduced and displayed in parks and public spaces in and around the local area. Sophie is the Environmental Promotions Officer for BCP council and was really impressed with the quality of the posters and the messages they conveyed.
The winning posters were selected from three finalists from each class, chosen by the class teacher. During judging, Sophie explained that she was looking for something bold and striking with a simple, clear message. The winners were announced in a special Year 4 assembly.
All the Year 4 pupils are really excited that their work will be displayed in the local community and really hope it will encourage some people to think before they drop their litter.
A big thank you to Sophie and well done to all our poster designers!
