This week we held our Harvest Assemblies. In the assembly we talked about how Harvest Festivals started about 150 years ago as a Christian festival. We looked at how they have changed over the years as food, farming and commerce have changed. We talked about the importance of being grateful for having food to eat as well as for the hard work of the farming community. Children across the school brought in donations of tinned and packet foods and these have been given to a local food bank that helps those in need. We recognised that often Harvest Festivals now are as much thinking of those without food as well as being thankful for the food we have to eat.
