Monkey Puzzle

We have been busy in Year One learning our new talking story, ‘Monkey Puzzle’ by Julia Donaldson. Lots of us already knew the story so we really enjoyed making up actions to help retell it to our friends. We started by making a story map, we all drew some pictures to help us remember each part of the story and linked them together with arrows so that anyone could retell our story back. We were so pleased to be working with our new learning partners and working in our brand new English books. We retold our story to the class, pointing to each part of the story as we went.

Once we had made our story maps, we did lots of sentence writing to get us ready for something new we do on a Friday…. “Big Write”. Each week we do some writing on a Friday morning, all by ourselves, so we have to make sure we have lots of ideas ready to go. This week we were writing all about the main character, the Monkey who has lost his Mum. We talked about what he looks like, what he does and where he lives. When we had finished we did some super ‘Purple Polishing’ of our work, making it even better for when we do some more writing next week. Well done Year One, we have been so impressed with how well you have settled into our learning this year, keep up the super work!!!
