Year 2 have been practising their comprehension skills. They have been reading lots of different texts and answering questions about them. This week they had great fun reading all about emperor penguins. After reading the text they were very keen to see how well they could complete their comprehension sheets.
Scanning is reading a text quickly in order to find specific information and key vocabulary to help answer retrieval questions. The children are becoming very confident at scanning and have been practising this skill by doing word searches, looking for hidden words in texts and playing word games.
Making an inference involves using what you know to make a guess about what you don’t know or reading between the lines. These are tricky skills to learn, so it’s really important for the children to read texts carefully and look for clues. The children are great detectives and really enjoy trying to solve inference type questions.
Prediction skills are those based on what might happen in the future. The children use the information and their own experiences to anticipate what might happen next.
Well done Year 2 you are super scanners!
