Drumming!

Year 4 were very loud on Wednesday!  We spent the day African drumming, each class took it in turns to learn how the play different rhythms on the djembe drums. Djembe comes from the saying “Anke djé, anke bé” which translates to “everyone gather together in peace” and defines the drum’s purpose. We all had our own individual drums which we had to tilt and hold with our legs, whilst we changed our hand shapes to make different notes on the drums.

We also learnt some African dancing out on the field.  This was very energetic and we used the beat of the drums to help us know when to change to our next moves.   After lunch we all came together and gave a performance to the year one classes. They were a very attentive audience and enjoyed our dancing and drumming. Mrs Gregory, Miss Bessant, Miss Drayson and Mrs Cannings also joined in with the dancing!
