4SB Japanese Cooking

4SB have been learning lots about Japan in our topic called ‘The World on a Plate’. As a class, the children brought in a range of Japanese recipes and ideas but it was decided that we couldn’t do Japanese cooking without doing sushi!

First, the children had to carefully prepare the vegetables. They cut their chosen fillings into long thin strips and then laid out a thin layer of rice onto the sheet of seaweed. Now came the tricky part. 4SB had fun trying to roll their sushi on a bamboo mat and keep all of their filling inside! 

Once everyone had made some sushi, we were able to try it! Many children were apprehensive about eating seaweed but they were all brave and gave it a go! The majoirty of them were surprised that they enjoyed it!
