During R Time some Year 1 and 2 children chose to create marshmallow spaghetti sculptures and towers out of dried spaghetti and soft, sticky marshmallows. This is not as easy at it would appear, as the children needed to be very careful with how they attached the dried spaghetti to the marshmallow.
The activity allowed the children to explore their design skills, understand the design process, encourage design mindset and to look at the principles of engineering.
Although the children weren’t fully aware of the skills they were developing during their chosen activity, it was evident we have some budding engineers within our school.
Interestingly, there appeared to be designs with fewer marshmallows than were distributed! However, reassuringly all the spaghetti was accounted for!
