As you will have read in our newsletter over the last few weeks, Winton’s School Council have decided to spend the year fundraising for two great causes that are special to our school community. Those causes are Piam Brown Ward, a children’s cancer ward at Southampton hospital, and to develop our Reception outdoor learning area.
On Monday all the children met Rachel Funnell, the Piam Brown Ward charity co-ordinator, who shared how all the money we raise for the charity will be used.
School Council launched our ‘Copper Counts Change Matters’ ongoing fundraising in the same assembly. Children are being encouraged to collect any unwanted copper coins from family members and friends and bring them into school to put into a new collection box. Over the year we will keep a running total of how much we have raised, so keep checking the newsletter for the total. We hope to invite Rachel back at the end of the year to show her all the super fundraising we will have done and the amount we have managed to raise.
Throughout the year we will also be selling Piam Brown Ward wrist bands to raise awareness of the work done by the charity. These will be on sale everyday, cost £1 each and come in small, medium and large.
